ONE-BOWL CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 tbsp. butter
1 3/4 c. cake flour, sifted
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. milk
2 eggs
5 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift dry ingredients, including cocoa in a large bowl. Add shortening, butter and 2/3 cup milk; mix and beat 2 minutes. Add remaining 1/3 cup milk, eggs and vanilla; beat 2 minutes longer, scraping bowl occasionally.

Bake in 2 greased and floured round cake pans (8 x 1 1/2 inch) at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until edges pull away. Do not over bake. Cool in rack for 5 minutes and then remove Ice when cool.

CHOCOLATE ICING:

1/4 c. cocoa
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/2 c. milk
2 tbsp. Karo
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar

Boil for 3 minutes and cool. Add vanilla and confectioners' sugar. Beat well with mixer and spread on cake.
