GERMAN APPLE CAKE | |
3 eggs (lg.) 1 c. Wesson oil 2 c. sugar Combine and cream these 3 ingredients. Add: 2 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 generous tsp. baking powder 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. chopped nuts 5 c. diced (sm.) apples (Winesap are good) Add these ingredients in order given. Mix by hand after apples are added. Pour in greased and floured 13 x 6 inch pyrex dish (or something near this size). Bake 40-50 minutes at 350 degrees or when a toothpick comes out clean. Be sure to use Pyrex, not metal. ICING: 3 tbsp. butter 6 oz. Philadelphia cream cheese 1 1/2 c. 4X sugar (or whatever it takes) 1/8 tsp. salt Mix well. Ice cake while hot. Leave in pan. I take a toothpick and punch holes in cake when I take it out of oven. Put icing on immediately. It melts and goes in the cake. You might want to put icing on 2 or 3 times. |
