1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1 whole regular cake yeast
1 whole egg
1 1/2 tsp. salt
4 c. flour

Scald milk. Pour over shortening in bowl and cool to lukewarm. If desired, same amount of hot water can be used and 1/4 cup dried milk added to flour.

Crumble yeast with sugar and mix together. Add to cooled milk and beat with mixer. Mix in amount of flour as possible until mixer. Then use spoon to add remaining flour. Cover and let rise until light.

Knead on floured board until dough is not too sticky to handle. Shape into buns. Cover and let rise until light. Bake in moderately hot oven (400 degrees) 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 1 1/2 dozen.
