4 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 c. molasses
3 eggs
1 c. milk
Applesauce or apple butter or dried apples can be used with this recipe

You can use 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring if you want to. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and spices. (Omit salt and baking powder if using self-rising flour.) Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually, blending well. Add molasses, mix thoroughly. Add an egg at a time, beating well, after each addition. Add flour mixture and milk, beat until smooth.
