VINEGAR CANDY (OLD RECIPE)
2 c. sugar 1/2 c. vinegar 3 tbsp. butter Put butter in kettle and melt. Add vinegar and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved - afterwards stir occasionally. Boil until brittle when dropped into cold water. Turnout on buttered platter to cool enough to handle. It will be yellow in color. Butter hands well and pull until it becomes very light in color and is too stiff to pull any longer. Enjoy!!

This may sound silly but what kind of vinegar do you suggest using. Apple or White? A friend of mine back in the early 70's made this at my house and I think we used apple vinegar. This candy was so good. I would love to make it for my grandsons.

Family favorite! I believe this has Amish roots. Dark vinegar, not the clear stuff. We generally do not pull to taffy stage. But you can. Don't chew! (If you want to keep your fillings.)

I'm 75 and this Vinegar Candy we used to make Castine, Maine.. I Love it! It was so much fun to make with our Mom!! It's very tasty. We wrapped it up in wax paper after we rolled it and cut it in small pieces!! Try it, you'll like it..

So good! Fun to do with kids to help with the pulling. We pulled it until you couldn't any more, and it came out almost like hard candy. Roll into ropes and cut into small pieces, wrap in wax paper.

My grandma used to make when I was little. She would stretch and stretch till it was golden white. It was great to eat. Was so hard to chew. Remember having it in a pie dish and using handle of knife to break off a piece.
