OLD FASHIONED PEANUT BUTTER
CANDY
 
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup milk (or evaporated milk)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Bring milk and sugar to boil. Cook until syrup forms a soft ball (238°F on a candy thermometer) in cold water in saucer. Remove from heat.

Add vanilla and peanut butter. Beat well and pour into buttered pan.let cool and cut into pieces. This is a very old recipe from my grandmother.

Very good!

May double recipe for a larger pan of fudge.

Cooks Note: A Candy Thermometer is recommended for best results.

Thank you so much for posting this recipe. My Dad use to make this for me and my little sister when we were young. He died when I was 18 and I couldn't remember how he made it. I am now 38 and have tried to make it many times with traditional "fudge" recipes and never could get it right. I have two children of my own now and I can't wait to make this for them so it can become our tradition too. Bless you!

My father made this but used powdered sugar and milk. Then after it became a ball he rolled it out on the counter adding more powdered sugar than he covered it with peanut butter. Lastly he rolled it up into a log and sliced it into pinwheel like slices. These were my absolute favorite! I couldn't figure out what to put in the powdered sugar either, now I remember. So good! Thanks!
