CHINESE JAMBALAYA | |
I am from south Louisiana, and I came up with this recipe by just adding things I like to other things I like. Through trial and error I came up with what I call Chinese Jambalaya. It is one of my favorite main course or side dishes. 1 box Zatarain's New Orleans style beef flavored rice* 3/4 lb smoked sausage, sliced 1 lb. bag broccoli florets, frozen 1 tbsp. lemon-pepper (McCormick's) 1 tbsp. soy sauce Prepare flavored rice per box instructions except add sausage also. Put rice, sausage and water in a bowl and heat in microwave for 2-3 minutes. Pour rice and sausage in to Crock-Pot, add lemon-pepper seasoning and soy sauce and continue to cook on high for approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Stir in broccoli and continue to cook on low for 2-3 hours. Depending on how you like your broccoli (crisp, firm or soft) you should put broccoli in later for crisp and earlier for soft. I sometimes steam broccoli separately in order to prepare the dish faster with softer broccoli. This way it's ready to eat in less than 2 hours. Note: I don't know if you can get Zatarain's products outside of Louisiana. If not, use your favorite flavored rice. Submitted by: David Brevelle |
