SPICE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
3 c. sifted cake flour
1 c. rich sour milk
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream butter and gradually add the sugar and mix well. Add salt and well beaten egg, spices and flour alternately with the milk. Bake in two 9 inch cake pans or 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done. Ice with Caramel Icing.

CARAMEL ICING:

2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. cream
1 tbsp. butter
