1/2 c. butter
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten separately
1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 c. cake flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves

Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks, well beaten. Stir soda in milk and add to above mixture. Add spices to flour that has been sifted 3 times. Add to mixture and beat well. Then fold in egg whites. Bake in moderate oven.

ICING:

2 c. light brown sugar
1/2 c. cream
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook until ready to beat and spread on cooled cake.
