BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES 
Slice cucumbers until you have 1 gallon. Put in large pot, cover with 1/2 cup salt and a lot of ice, let stand for 3 hours. Drain off water and salt. Mix:

4 c. vinegar
4 c. sugar
1 chopped onion
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
1/2 tsp. turmeric

Pour over cucumbers, put on stove and let them get very hot, but do not boil. Put in hot sterilized jars.
