APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
2 drops food coloring (red)

Heat to boiling, add 2 tablespoons butter.

Mix:

2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. salt

Roll 1/4 inch thick and cut into 6 inch squares. Place sliced apples (1/2 to 3/4 cup) in center of each square, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and dot with butter. Place 1 inch apart in greased baking dish. Pour syrup over dumplings and bake about 35 minutes at 375 degrees. Serve with rich cream.
