APPLE DUMPLINGS | |
2 1/2 c. sugar 2 1/2 c. water 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. butter 5 to 6 lg. Granny Smith apples 2 c. flour 4 tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. shortening 3/4 c. milk Combine sugar, water, spices and butter. Bring to boil for 3 minutes. Peel apples and slice into thin chunks. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut shortening into flour mixture until you have fine crumbs. Add milk to create dough. Separate dough into 2 balls. Roll out 1 ball about 1/2 inch thick, spread half of apples onto dough. Roll like you would a jelly roll. Cut into 2-inch slices. Place into 9x13 inch baking pan; should look like cinnamon rolls. Repeat with remaining dough and apples. Pour syrup over dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. |
