APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 c. butter

2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
6 apples (McIntosh, Paula Reds or Haralsons are best)

To make syrup: in sauce pan, boil sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter for 5 minutes. To make dough: in mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, shortening and milk, as if making pie crust. Roll out dough. Cut into 6 squares.

To make dumpling: peel, core and slice apples. Divide slices among squares of dough. Sprinkle slices with a little additional sugar and cinnamon. Wrap each dough square around apples. Place dumplings in buttered baking dish. Pour boiling syrup over them. Bake in 375 degree oven for 35 minutes or until apples are tender.
