OLD FASHIONED APPLE DUMPLINGS 
6 med. size baking apples
2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk

SAUCE:

2 c. brown sugar
2 c. water
1/4 c. butter
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Mix sauce first, bringing to a boil the sugar and water and cinnamon. Cook for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and add butter.

Pare and core apples. Leave halves. To make pastry mix flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until particles are about the size of peas. Sprinkle milk over mixture and press together lightly. Roll dough and cut into squares placing apples on dough. Pat dough around apple securing edges. Place in baking pans. Pour sauce over them and bake at 375 degrees for 35-40 minutes, basting occasionally.
