Aunt Edna's Homemade Chocolate Pudding

 Cassie (West Virginia) says:
This was good, but like everyone said, use 2 cups of chocolate. Also, I had more luck with medium-high heat. I started out on 5 (for a 10-range stovetop) but ended up turning it on high, then going down to 7/8. This recipe needs real steps, like having the pot heat first, then put the ingredients and pour the milk.

The pudding is awesome, especially made with dark chocolate cocoa. One could also add chopped baker's chocolate as well. However, the instructions are lacking. It may be obvious to some, but not to others that you need to bring this to a boil, then reduce to low and simmer. It does take a considerable amount of time to thicken. Perhaps more flour is warranted. And, definitely adding 2x the cocoa is necessary. Also, don't expect it to be as thick as you would expect pudding to be in the hot stage, it should be more like the consistency of thick gravy or sauce before refrigerating. It also tastes best made with raw milk. But then most things do. The raw milk lends the cream in it, which makes it creamier and richer. All-in-all a good pudding, and better for you than store bought.

I loved this recipe, I used Nestle Quik powder because I didn't have cocoa but I used less sugar, used the base of this recipe to make white chocolate pudding as well and it came out better.

I added the extra cocoa which made it taste alot better. I stirred it until it seemed to thicken but it still never got that thick. Was I supposed to let it start to bubble?? I wish the directions had been more specific, but from what the reviews are saying, I seem to be the only one who had this problem.

This is an awesome recipe. I added two heaping tablespoons of cocoa and a dash of salt and it was perfect. Instead of stirring I used an electric mixer. Thanks!!!

Very good... but in the south we call this chocolate gravy. Just a little different taste than pudding.

This recipe is delicious. I did as the other commenters suggested and added more cocoa. I tend to like a really thick pudding as well. I don't tend to like pudding hot, but I found myself eating it straight out of the pan anyway! It was even better the next day, nice and cold out of the fridge. Fantastic!

Make with 2 tbsp. dark chocolate powder, reduced milk by half cup using 1/4 cup espresso and 1/4 cup cream. Topped with real whipped cream. Use decaf when making for kids.

This was the easiest chocolate pudding recipe I've ever made and it was fantastic. I too, like others, used extra chocolate. When finished I topped it with Italian Meringue instead of whipped cream. Just delicious!

Delicious! I too changed things up a bit with more chocolate, sugar, salt and coffee. I will be making this again!
