BEEF - RICE - CABBAGE GOULASH 
1 lb. hamburger
1 tbsp. shortening
1 clove minced garlic
1 tbsp. minced onion
6 oz. can tomato paste
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
3 c. water
3/4 c. raw rice
4 c. shredded cabbage

Brown meat in hot shortening in large pan, stirring. Add garlic and onion. Cook for 5 minutes stirring frequently. Add tomato paste, salt and pepper; blend. Stir in water and rice. Bring to a boil; lower heat and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Add cabbage; cook for 10 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Yields 8 servings.
