WINTER STEW 
1 1/2 lb. stew beef
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 c. flour
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. oregano
2 c. water
3 tbsp. catsup
6 med. potatoes
6 carrots
4 onions
3 ribs celery

Cut meat into small cubes. Roll in flour and brown in hot fat. Add 2 cups water and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Add vegetables which have been cut in spoon size chunks. Cook until tender. Add seasonings and catsup and if broth is real thin and soupy thicken with 1 tablespoon flour in 1/4 cup cold water, dissolved and stirred into the hot stew.
