1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. applesauce
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. chocolate chips
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and applesauce. Mix in dry ingredients, chips, and nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
