MAYONNAISE CAKE
I got this recipe from a woman I worked with sometime between 1950 and 1953. Her recipe is for "Salad Dressing Cake" but I implore you NOT to use Miracle Whip. Following it is the recipe for "Never Hardens Chocolate Frosting". I have been looking for this recipe for a while and finally found it.

SALAD DRESSING CAKE:

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups sugar
3 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Sift all together and add:

1 cup mayonnaise (her recipe says salad dressing)
1 cup warm water
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix well and bake 30 minutes in a moderate (350°F) oven.

NEVER HARDENS CHOCOLATE FROSTING:

1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 heaping tbsp. corn starch
3 tbsp. cocoa
dash of salt

Cook until thickens. Remove from heat and add:

1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

Allow to cool.
