BREADSTICKS 
2 to 2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 pkg. active dry yeast
3/4 c. milk
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt

Combine 3/4 cup of the flour and yeast. In a saucepan heat milk, shortening, sugar and salt until just warm. Add to flour mix. Beat for 1/2 minute (slow); beat 3 minutes (fast). Stir in remaining flour. Knead for 10 minutes. Shape into ball and cover; let rise 45 minutes to 1 hour. Punch down; divide into 4 portions. Divide each portion into 6 pieces. Roll each into a rope 8 inches long; let rise 30 minutes. Bake in 375 degree oven for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Decrease oven to 300 degrees and bake 25-30 minutes longer. Makes 24 breadsticks.
