CHEWY CARAMEL BROWNIES 
2 cups light brown sugar, packed
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
2 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In large bowl, measure all ingredients. With mixer at medium speed, beat all ingredients until well mixed. Occasionally scrape bowl with a rubber spatula. Evenly spread in 9x9-inch square baking pan.

Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool brownies in pan for 5 minutes.

Cut. Use pancake turner to transfer brownies to wire rack. Cool.
