RED VELVET CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
2 oz. red velvet food coloring
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and coloring. Sift flour with salt and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture alternating with buttermilk. Beat well. Add flavoring. Dissolve soda in vinegar. Stir into batter. Pour in layer cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
