1 c. shortening
2 eggs, beaten
2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water
2 c. unsweetened applesauce
1 c. nuts
2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 c. raisins
1 c. dates
1 tsp. each of cloves, cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg

Mix in order given. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Use angel food pan, round or long. Always use wax paper in bottom of pan.
