MRS. H.'S BAKED APPLES WITH
CINNAMON SAUCE
 
1 pkg. pie crust mix
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 c. sugar
Water, amt. on pkg.

Mix well, form into ball, wrap and refrigerate.

Mix 2 1/2 teaspoons each butter and sugar to fill apple centers - nuts, if like. Divide pastry in 4; roll to 7 or 9 inch squares; place apples in center, fill cores; wrap completely with dough and chill 30 minutes.

One hour before serving, preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup water; simmer 5 minutes. Pour 1 tablespoon on each apple and bake 10 minutes. Then pour on rest of syrup; bake and baste 20 to 30 minutes more.

SAUCE:

2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix well and add 2 cups boiling water while stirring; boil gently about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1/4 cup butter, 2 teaspoon vanilla, few grains of salt and a few gratings of nutmeg. Mix sauce well; serve warm over the warm apples.
