AUNT SUE'S OATMEAL CAKE 
1 1/4 c. water
1 c. quick oats
1 stick butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. coconut
1/4 c. chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts are best)
3 tbsp. melted butter
4 tbsp. milk

Boil water, add quick oats and 1 stick of butter. Remove from heat and let stand 20 minutes. Mix together 1 cup brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs and oat mixture, blend well. In separate bowl, mix together flour, soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Gradually add flour mixture to oat mixture. Blend in vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. For topping, blend 3/4 c. brown sugar, coconut, chopped nuts, 3 tablespoons of melted butter and milk. Spread over warm cake and broil until lightly browned and bubbly.
