FILLING: 1 lb. hamburger 1 med. onion, chopped 1/4 sm. cabbage, lg. shreds 1 carrot, shredded (optional) 6 mushrooms, sliced (optional) Salt and pepper to taste Brown hamburger and onion and drain fat. Add cabbage, carrot, mushrooms, salt and pepper to taste. Stir fry until limp and cool. BREAD DOUGH: Can use frozen when desired or favorite bread dough or this one: 2 pkgs. fast-rising yeast 1 tbsp. sugar 1 3/4 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. hot (125 degree) water 1 tbsp. butter 3 c. flour Combine flour, yeast, sugar and salt in mixing bowl. Add hot water, butter and beat to combine, then beat on high 3 1/2 minutes. Add enough flour to make firm elastic dough. Cover bowl and let rise 15 minutes in a 80-90 place. Punch down and divide into 8 pieces. Roll out each piece into circle and fill with meat. Fold over to make half moon pie, crimp and fold over edges to seal well. Place on greased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. For crusty bread, spray hot oven with water before putting runzas in and again after 5 minutes. 9 sandwich servings. |
