CAKE BATTER: 1 1/4 c. sifted cake flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. Crisco 1/2 c. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 1 egg, unbeaten CHOCOLATE SAUCE: Place 1 square unsweetened chocolate and 1/2 cup water in sauce pan over low heat. Cook and stir until chocolate is melted. Add 2/3 cup sugar stirring constantly, bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add 1/4 cup butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Let cool. Line a 9 to 10 inch glass pie plate with pie crust. Start oven at 350 degrees. Measure into sifter flour, baking powder, salt and add milk and vanilla. Mix until all flour is dampened. Beat 2 minutes at low speed. Cream egg and Crisco and sugar until fluffy. Pour batter in unbaked pie crust. Pour lukewarm sauce gently over batter. Sprinkle with nuts or coconut. Bake in 350 degree oven for 50 to 55 minutes. |
