ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
1 c. shortening or 2 sticks butter
2 c. sugar
4 c. flour
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. orange slice candy
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 box dates, chopped
1 can coconut

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time. Mix as you would any other cake, adding fruit and nuts and candy. Bake in tube pan. Bake 2 1/2 hours at 250 degrees. Pour topping over cake while still hot.

TOPPING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. orange juice

Mix well. Let cake cool before turning out of pan.
