1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. chopped dates
2 c. sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
1 lb. chopped orange slice candy
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla

Dissolve soda in milk and pour over dates. Let stand. Combine sugar, shortening, eggs. Mix candy, flour and add to sugar, shortening, eggs and milk mixture. Bake in tube pan 2 hours at 350 degrees. Glaze while warm.

GLAZE:

1 c. orange juice
2 c. powdered sugar
