CANDY APPLES 
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine all ingredients except vanilla and cook until syrup crackles (hard crack stage) when a trickle of it is dropped into cold water.

Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Stick a skewer into end of washed and dried apples.

Dip into the hot sugar mixture, and place on a well oiled pan to cool.

Before apples cool, they can be rolled in sweetened coconut or chopped nuts or crushed candies, jimmies, etc.
