1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 lb. chopped dates
2 c. sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
1 lb. chopped orange slice candy
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla

GLAZE:

1 c. orange juice
2 c. powdered sugar

Dissolve soda and milk and pour over dates; let stand. Combine sugar, shortening and eggs. Mix candy, and flour and add to sugar, shortening, egg and milk mixture. Mix well. Bake in tube pan 1 hour at 350 degrees. Glaze while warm.
