SAVORY OVEN BEEF STEW 
2 lbs. boneless beef for stew
2 or 3 onions, sliced
4 or 5 carrots
4 stalks celery
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. tapioca
1/2 fresh bread torn in pieces (1 slice bread without crust)
1/2 c. tomato juice

Mix together and put in a large casserole or covered baking dish. Must be covered tightly. Bake 4 hours in 250 degree oven. Serves 4 very generously.
