VALENTINE COOKIES
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 sticks butter
1 tsp. salt

Cream together:

Add and mix thoroughly together:

2 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. buttermilk
4 c. flour
Dash nutmeg (I substitute 1 tsp. vanilla)
3 tsp. baking powder

Chill 1 hour or longer.

Using small amount of dough at a time (and keeping the rest refrigerated), roll out 1/4 inch thick on heavily floured board. Cut with heart-shaped (or other) cookie cutter.

Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until bottom of cookies are light brown but edges are not brown.

Makes soft, fat cookies. If you like them crisp, roll dough thinner.

When cool, frost. For sugar cookies, sprinkle with sugar before baking.
