WALNUT POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
2 sticks butter
1/2 c. shortening
5 eggs
3 c. flour
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 can black walnuts

Cream together sugar, butter and shortening. Add eggs, 1 at a time. Add flour and milk alternately. Add vanilla and baking powder and beat well. Add black walnuts. Put batter in tube pan. Place in cold oven. Turn temperature to 325 degrees and cook for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Frost with Soft Chocolate Frosting, as follows.

SOFT CHOCOLATE FROSTING:

1/4 c. butter
1/8 lb. chocolate
1/3 c. hot milk
1 box confectioner's sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt

Melt butter and chocolate together over hot water. Pour hot milk into sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in vanilla, salt and chocolate mixture. Beat until it holds its shape. Add 1/2 can black walnuts and spread on cake.
