MOM'S RECIPE FOR HOME-MADE BREAD | |
1 pt. milk 2 tbsp. salt (level) 5 tbsp. sugar (rounded) In mixer bowl, put 2 cups water and 2 cakes of yeast to soak. Scald milk to lukewarm, add yeast mixture. Put in 7 cups sifted flour; mix. Add 5 tablespoons melted shortening; mix. Add 6 cups flour; mix. Knead or use bread mixer; put in pans. Let rise. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. (I make 4 small loaves, and 2 pans of rolls with this amount of dough.) |
