BUTTER ROLL 
2 1/2 c. self rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
Milk for soft dough
3/4 c. sugar
1 qt. milk
2 tbsp. vanilla
butter, softened
1 c. sugar
9 x 13 inch pan

Cut shortening into flour. Mix in milk to make a soft dough. Roll out on a flour covered board. Roll about 1/2 inch thick. Cover with softened butter. Cover with a layer of sugar. Mix 1 quart milk with 1 cup sugar and vanilla. Sprinkle rolled out dough with a little of the milk mixture. Roll as for jelly roll. Cut about 1 inch thick and lay in pan. Cover with milk mixture. Bake at 425 degrees until brown. Extra milk can be added if needed.
