TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS STOLLEN | |
1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. milk, scalded 1 pkg. dry yeast Eggs 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 c. raisins 1/2 c. chopped candied red and green cherries 1/2 c. chopped almonds 3 1/2 to 4 c. flour Melt butter in milk in small bowl. Cool. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Beat 1 egg in large bowl. Add yeast, milk mixture and next 5 ingredients; mix well. Add flour gradually, beating well after each addition. Cover. Let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk. Turn onto floured surface. Knead lightly. Divide dough into 2 equal portions. Shape into loaves. Place on greased baking sheet. Cover. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Brush tops with 1 tablespoon beaten egg. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour or until bread tests done. Yield: 2 loaves. |
