1 German chocolate cake mix
1/2 c. Borden's sweetened condensed milk
3/4 c. butter
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels
1 c. chocolate chips, optional
1 c. nuts, optional

Make German chocolate cake mix according to directions. Pour half the batter into a greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Let cool.

Melt together over low heat, stirring with whisk, the sweetened condensed milk, caramels and butter. Pour over baked cake. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts. Pour rest of batter over top. Bake 30 minutes.
