ORANGE BREAD 
1 lg. orange
Boiling water
3 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, beaten
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. raisins or dates
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Squeeze orange juice into cup, add enough boiling water to make 1 cup liquid. Grind or process rind of orange and raisins or dates. Place all in large bowl. Add egg, shortening, vanilla and sugar, blend well. Add sifted dry ingredients and blend. Do not beat, fold in nuts. Bake at 350 degree for 50-60 minutes in large greased and floured bread pan.
