POPPY SEED CAKE 
3/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. milk
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. poppyseeds in 1/2 c. milk
4 egg whites, beaten

FILLING: (OPTIONAL)
4 egg yolks
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. cream
1 c. sugar

Soak poppy seeds in 1/2 cup milk for 2 hours. Combine butter, sugar, milk, flour, baking powder, salt and poppy seed mixture. Add beaten egg whites. Pour into greased pan(s). Bake at 350 degrees.

Time: 40 to 45 minutes (9 x 13 inch pan). 30 to 35 minutes (layer pans).

Filling: Cook all ingredients until thick. Cool slightly. Spread between layers or on top of cake.

Frost with white icing.
