SOFT MOLASSES CAKE 
1 c. molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. hot water
5 tbsp. melted lard
1 egg
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour

Sift flour, spices, and salt together. Add egg, sugar, lard, and molasses through flour mixture. Dissolve soda in water, add to batter and mix. Pour batter into 3 well-greased jelly cake pans. Bake at moderate temperature until done. Cool, frost, and serve.
