EASY BASIC STEW 
1-2 lbs. stew meat
Oil or bacon fat
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 tbsp. beef bouillon crystals
1/4 c. flour
Water
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. whole thyme
Salt & pepper
Potatoes & carrots

Brown meat in fat. Might need to do this in 2 or 3 shifts of meat to allow it to brown well. Add chopped onion and let brown or saute a little. Add flour, the part I always forget, about 1/4 cup, stir around, slowly add water and bouillon and spices. Cook at least 1 hour or up to 2 1/2, adding vegetables the last 30 to 45 minutes. Season to taste before adding vegetables.
