OLD FASHIONED CORNBREAD 
1 c. yellow corn meal
1 c. all purpose flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. milk

Combine dry ingredients in bowl and mix well. Cut in shortening until well blended. Combine eggs and milk and blend well. Mix eggs and milk mixture with dry ingredients until just blended.

Pour into greased 8 inch square pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes or until done. Makes 9 squares.
