PECAN PIE SURPRISE BARS 
18 1/2 oz. pkg. yellow cake mix (reserve 2/3 c.)
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 egg
1 c. pecans, chopped

FILLING:

2/3 c. reserved cake mix
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. dark corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs

Generously grease bottom and sides of 13 x 9 inch pan. In large mixing bowl, combine remaining dry cake mix, shortening and 1 egg. Mix until crumbly. Press in prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes until light golden brown.

Meanwhile, prepare filling. In large mixer-bowl, combine all ingredients. Beat at medium speed 1-2 minutes. Pour filling over partially baked crust and sprinkle with the chopped pecans. Return to the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes until filling is set. Cool and cut into bars. Makes about 3 dozen bars.
