CHOCOLATE OATMEAL CAKE 
1 c. quick oats
1 stick butter
1 1/4 c. boiling water
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 c. flour

Pour boiling water over oats and let stand for 30 minutes. Add eggs, vanilla and salt. Mix sugar, white and brown, cream of tartar, soda, cocoa and flour together; then add to oatmeal mixture. Stir lightly. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.

TOPPING:

6 tbsp. butter
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. evaporated milk
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar

Cook all until it thickens and looks curdled. Stir constantly. Add 1 cup coconut and 1/2 - 3/4 cup nuts. Put on cake while cake is hot.
