MAPLE NUT CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs (separated)
1 c. milk
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. maple flavoring

Beat sugar, Crisco and egg yolks together. Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Alternately with the milk beginning and ending with flour mixture. Add flavoring and 3/4 cup chopped walnuts. Beat egg whites and blend in. Bake in 7x11 cake pan at 350 degrees until toothpick comes out clean, about 1/2 hour. Very good topped with maple flavored frosting.
