ANGEL FLAKE BISCUITS | |
5 c. flour, sifted 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. shortening 2 c. buttermilk 2 pkg. dry yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water and let set for 5 minutes First, mix 2 packages dry yeast in 1/2 cup warm water; set aside. Mix all dry ingredients together. Add shortening, buttermilk, yeast, and water to dry ingredients; stir until well blended. (Can be refrigerated if desired). Dough will be sticky. Put on floured surface and knead a few times until dough is smooth on outside. Roll to 1/2 inch thick. Cut biscuits and put in buttered pan. Butter top of biscuits and let rise (approximately 45 minutes). Bake at 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 24 servings. |
