SPICY FRESH PEAR SQUARES 
1 1/2 c. chopped fresh pears
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
3/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. coarsely chopped walnuts
Powdered sugar

Core and chop pears, but do not peel. Set aside. In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.

Add to creamed mixture. Stir in rolled oats, chopped pears, raisins and nuts. Spread into greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. While still warm, sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar and cut into squares. Makes about 4 dozen (1 1/2 inch) squares.
