BASIC ROLL DOUGH 
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 c. milk, scalded
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening or oil
1 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. sifted plain flour
1 egg

Soften yeast in warm water. Combine milk, sugar, shortening, and salt. Cool. Beat in yeast and egg. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough. Beat well. Place dough in greased bowl, turning once to grease surface. Cover and let rise until double. About 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Place dough on floured board; roll into desired shapes. Place on greased pan and let rise until double in bulk, about 30 to 45 minutes. Preheat over to 425 degrees; bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
