4 med. potatoes (about 1 1/2 lb.), cut into 1 inch cubes (about 4 c.)
2 tart apples, sliced
1 tbsp. sugar
4 slices bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 med. onion, sliced
1 tbsp. butter, softened
Dash ground nutmeg

Heat 1 inch salted water (1 teaspoon salt to 1 cup water) to boiling. Add potatoes, apples and sugar. heat to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and cook until potatoes are tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Drain. Fry bacon until crisp. Drain. Cook and stir onion in bacon fat until tender. Place potatoes and apples in serving bowl. Dot with butter and sprinkle with nutmeg. Top with onion and bacon.
